About
I've spent twenty years running the ad accounts I talk about: - $79 million in sales for the GLP-1 telehealth brand I lead media strategy for today - 14.58X return on AVIS/Budget's first-ever social ads test: $55K in, $810K+ out - Paskho: revenue up 194% on just 57% more ad spend - Sonya Dakar: a 5-to-1 return held for 2+ years - Averr Aglow: 26X on its first Amazon Prime Day - Built my agency, DYNAMO, and sold it to an Inc. 5000 agency in 2024, beating the earn-out by 20% Brands I've worked on include Domino's, Dunkin', Nissan, MetLife, Michaels, Office Depot, ADT and AutoNation. "David uses a head-turning, clever analogy to drive home a single idea: you can't ask for high-commitment from your target audience before creating genuine familiarity and trust... Not only is David down to Earth, but his insights are easily digestible to any marketer." Maria Mongeon, VP, AAF Greater Rochester

Every brand is skipping the first date and proposing marriage. This keynote takes the ten-phase framework from my 2016 book, The Ten Phases of Dating, and applies it to how brands actually earn (and lose) customers, from first impression to lifetime value or churn. The room walks away with: - A ten-phase map of any customer relationship, including the stages most brands ignore - A measurement framework that survives a CFO's cross-examination and separates real growth from platform-reported numbers - One diagnostic question to ask your CMO or agency this week that changes next quarter's budget - The "make or break" retention moment every brand hits, and what saves it Formats: a 30–45 minute short version ("Don't Propose on the First Date") for luncheons and opening keynotes, or the full 60–90 minute talk with a live audit of a real account.
Audience
CEOs, founders, CMOs and marketing teams; AAF and AMA chapters; CEO peer groups; universities
Duration
60–90 minutes
The short version of my signature keynote, built for luncheons and opening slots. Most brands skip straight from "hello" to "marry me": they ask for a purchase before anyone trusts them. Using four phases from my book The Ten Phases of Dating, this talk shows where the customer relationship actually starts, what each stage should ask for, and how to measure whether it's working, with real account examples from brands I've run media for.
Audience
AAF and AMA chapters, marketing teams, CEO peer groups, luncheon and opening-keynote slots
Duration
30–45 minutes
Attribution is a measurement choice. Incrementality is the actual answer to "did this campaign drive growth?" This working session shows practitioners how to design incrementality tests across Google, Meta, programmatic and LinkedIn, using geo-holdouts, conversion-lift studies and platform-native tools, with three anonymized account examples where attribution overcounted and incrementality caught the real driver. Attendees leave able to tell attribution from incrementality, design a geo-holdout test in under an hour, and defend or kill a media budget in front of a CFO.
Audience
PPC and paid media practitioners, agency owners, in-house marketing and analytics teams
Duration
60 minutes, or a half-day workshop
