Resiliency in the Black Community: Past, Present, & Future

Psychological resilience is the ability to mentally or emotionally cope and adapt in the face of adversity. While resilience can be developed, we should consider how some may have no choice but to be resilient. For Black communities, generations of trauma, systemic racism, and cultural obstacles have placed this population at risk for psychological distress, yet many African Americans have persevered through these challenges. During this interactive presentation, we will celebrate the strength and resilience of this community and provide strategies to enhance wellness in the future.

Real Conversations With Impact (RCWI)

Diversity and inclusion are top priorities for organization leaders. However, these topics can be hard to discuss, and sustainable change can be difficult to facilitate. Therefore, using an evidenced-based approach, the Real Conversations With Impact (RCWI) Experience was created to provide a safe space to host challenging conversations, explore intense emotions, and educate participants on how to strive towards being anti-racist. Being anti-racist means we are actively identifying and eliminating racism by changing systems, organizational structures, policies, practices, and attitudes. Through engaging in intentional action, participating in tough conversations, gaining knowledge, and interrupting biases we can all walk on this journey together.

Men Preserving MENtal Wellness

Similar to our physical health, preserving our mental health is essential. This training will focus on helping men learn additional strategies to enhance their mental wellness to ultimately bolster perseverance.

Tackling Racism in the Workplace: From Words to Action

  • Very good, useful presentation!!! I thought it was well paced, and Dr. Warner was able to keep my attention the whole time. I appreciated you including some of your personal experiences with microaggressions. It's necessary to revisit often the information shared in this workshop. If true change is going to happen we can't just talk about it every now and then. Dr. Warner was engaging, compassionate, and encouraging which takes true skill when dealing with such a charged topic. Thank you, Dr. Warner! Please keep the conversation going!

  • Dr. Ryan Warner made the audience feel at ease to discuss challenging topics. His deep understanding of the topic and research, along with his vulnerability, kept the audience engaged. In addition, Dr. Warner used exercises to increase our awareness of our own biases and blindspots. His presentation, "Unmasking Microaggressions in a Clinical Setting," also covered a model that can be used in clinical practice and a framework for instilling DEI culture in the workplace.
