James L. Motley’s passion, ambition, and drive are exemplified by his motto “speak not only to the mind of man but also the heart.“
Mr. Motley’s commitment and dedication to transforming individuals at a crossroads with the developmental tools needed to thrive are incomparable. Recognized as “The Basics Speaker'' for his relatable style and approach to helping everyone on all levels, he poignantly delivers his message to transform those who struggle both mentally, and physically.
Motley’s mental approach towards helping individuals developed 20 years ago working alongside Fortune Society with those struggling with re-entry back into the community post-incarceration. He then continued his mental approach by working with the homeless, drug users, and mental illness at the Lower East Side Harm Reduction Center in New York. Being honored by Mayor Bloomberg in 2006, Mr. Motley became Director of Prevention Services and worked alongside with the Department of Health of New York to strategically plan and develop many preventive service agencies throughout the world.
Realizing the importance of mental health and physical health, Mr. Motley broadened the approach by engaging in the health and fitness industry. Motley along with his training and expertise in nutrition became a consultant and business coach to those struggling with finding balance and a strategic lifestyle in becoming better employees or employers. Mr. Motley believes the importance of wellness should be developed by using tools of clear self-awareness and self-development. Not only has Mr. Motley helped others achieve this, but he has also become a bodybuilder and has won many competitions nationwide since 2012. Mr. Motley believes that peak health is true health, and activities give wonders with cognition, energy, and productivity. Those who lose their good health, spend the rest of their lives trying to recover it.
Mr. Motley has grown into Motivational Speaking. Speaking to those in corporate business, colleges, and non-profit agencies or CBOs. He continues the harm reduction philosophy of being non judgemental and meeting people where they are at. Mr. Motley drives the message that investing in your purpose is a part of finding true peace; Living by the quote, “The tragedy of life is not death, but what we let die inside while we live.”
