My name is Jana Geyer I am 35 years old and I'm changing the world for young women because I was misdiagnosed for 7 months and told my breast lump was a benign breast cyst. I became diligent. I was tired of being ignored by doctors because I was only 33, the picture of health, a young mom with no breast cancer history. I was denied a mammogram and can now ask the question: What if I had one? I fought for myself and for answers and was finally diagnosed Oct 1, 2018 after initially finding a lump on Feb 28th, 2018. I underwent intense chemo, a double mastectomy and radiation. I knew I had to do something about protecting the patient rights of women under 40 and that's what I am doing now. I created The #Checkyourself Movement; A public speaking project and social media based advocacy program not just about breast health but about educating and empowering young women to be their own proactive health advocates. I speak at colleges, businesses, places of worship and other venues where young women typically congregate. I also act as a guide for young women going through breast cancer. I spearheaded a support group for young women and I was just on Good Morning America alongside Robin Roberts, Amy Robach and Dr. Jennifer Ashton. I am determined to make sure that women under 40 are cared for and tested properly for breast cancer instead of dismissed and denied. We deserve the diagnostic testing available to catch cancer as early as possible. I will save lives, I have to. No one is going to fight for you like YOU! I'm making it my responsibility to spread this message and I will never stop.
I am interested in sharing The #Checkyourself Movement with the world!
