From Stage to Screen: Exploring the Art of Visual Storytelling
Workshop • 3 days
Jason Wehrenberg's signature program explores how theatrical design, directing, performance, and visual storytelling come together to shape the experiences audiences see on stage and screen. Drawing from his interests as a theatrical design consultant and aspiring director, Jason examines the creative elements behind a successful production. The program looks beyond actors and dialogue to explore scenery and set design, costumes, lighting, sound, props, and the many artistic decisions that help establish a production's identity. Participants are introduced to the relationship between theatrical and cinematic storytelling, including the different tools available to stage and film directors. Jason explores how a theatrical production must communicate within a physical performance space while cinema can use cameras, editing, locations, production design, and other techniques to guide an audience's perspective. The program also considers the importance of collaboration. Directors, designers, performers, and production teams must work toward a shared creative vision while bringing their own expertise to the process.
