Type 1, Type 2, and YOU! Treating Your Diabetic Patient
Diabetes is a major public health problem that is approaching epidemic proportions globally. A report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that the number of Americans with diabetes continues to rise, with 9.4% of the U.S. population (30.3 million people) estimated to have the disease, and more than a third of those aged 20 and over in the U.S. now though to have prediabetes. As dental professionals, we know the risk factors involved with periodontal disease and diabetes, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, Alzheimer’s disease and numerous other conditions. In this presentation, educator and speaker Jennifer Suminski, CPhT, RDH, MS will provide an overview of the various types of diabetes, a diabetes medication update, nutritional considerations for diabetics, diabetic emergencies and how to avoid them, and strategies for treating the diabetic patient including a review of the new CDT code for in-office HbA1c testing.
