Humanist Manufacturing: A Humanitarian Approach to Excellence in High-Impact Plant Operations
Manufacturing companies need help finding workers. Imagine your plant operation as more than a production facility. One where your organization creates thriving for all internal and external stakeholders. A human-centered approach that puts employees as a central focus of the organization. Humanist manufacturing focuses on the importance of integrated growth, moving toward self-actualization and transcendence for a production operation's internal and external stakeholders. The objective is establishing an environment focused on strengths that promote upward spirals toward optimal individual and organizational performance. The work occurs in a positive whole system setting that compels the natural human tendency of innate good to motivate the organization's members to generate positive environmental and social impacts. Ultimately, it has the additional beneficial outcome of all stakeholders of its ecosystem doing well financially.
The Path From Strategy to Lasting Change
Organizations wanting to reach a desired future state for their company will begin by developing a strategy using the SOAR Framework, "an innovative, strengths-based whole system approach to strategic planning … which invites the whole system (stakeholders) into the process.” Next, a well-developed strategy requires determining the tactical plans to achieve the strategic initiatives. Then, executive champions are assigned from the leadership teams to assemble multiple-level and cross-organizational tactical teams to accomplish the defined organizational objectives that were the outcomes of the strategic planning phase. The final step is the development of the change management process. A well-crafted and executed change management plan is necessary to realize the organization's “why” and vision. Internal and external stakeholders, at a minimum, representatives of each group, if not all members, will routinely receive communications about the ongoing work.
