How confident do you ‘really feel’ in your professional and personal life? Are you someone who relishes challenges, floats through life with ease, grabbing opportunities as they come. Or have you learnt to fake it? Pretending to feel confident whilst squirming on the inside. Perhaps you simply avoid situations that make you uncomfortable or afraid?
Confidence is a soft skill that makes a hard impact on your life regardless of whether you have it or not. Real confidence isn't about faking it or acting 'as if'. Real confidence comes from within. You don't have to worry about what people think or what you have achieved. You can be resilient, assertive & say 'no'.
Sadly, ‘faking it’ is rife in professional life. On the outside you’ve got everything we are told will make us happy – a good job, money, house, car, education. Yet on the inside you are struggling & miserable.
My quest for real confidence came as result of being a stressed out stage manager. If I was challenged or needed to speak in front of others, I froze on the inside & sometimes fled on the outside. It may not have looked that way as I got good at pretending. But on the inside I was full of doubt. It was an exhausting way of living. I left my career burnt out & confused. I hit rock bottom.
Over the next 12 years I took it on myself to discover the truth about confidence, self-belief & look deeper into the thinking brain. Understanding how to get to that ‘better’ place has literally taken me from hiding backstage to being on BBC Breakfast TV!
I now coach & train professional women and smart men around the world to peel back the layers of pretense & live a truly confident life. I deliver interactive workshops, talks & keynotes and am author of “If We Can, You Can.”
