She has led leadership, organizational development and HR best practices for more than a decade, including serving as Vice President of Human Resources for a nearly $4 billion publicly traded company.

Katie is a TEDx and Disrupt speaker alumna and author of the best-selling book, Hidden Brilliance: A High-Achieving Introvert’s Guide to Self-Discovery, Leadership and Playing Big. She believes that high-achieving introverts are way too awesome to be playing small, meant for bigger things than a slow death by conference calls. Katie also co-hosts The Life and Leadership Podcast as a platform of conversations for powerful people to level up.

Katie is a mom of two tiny humans, a proud advocate for her awesome hometown of Milwaukee and macaroni & cheese aficionado. Find her full body of work at www.katierasoul.com and www.teamawesomecoaching.com.

Beyond Diversity and Inclusion to Belonging

While the work of Diversity & Inclusion is important and meaningful, Katie proposes that we move beyond that to create true belonging in our organizations. In today’s world, people go to work for more than a paycheck; they go in search of belonging and purpose. In this talk, she goes deep into belonging to define it and understand how that differs from our previous approaches to the engagement of our teams. In order to build and measure for belonging, every leader needs to play a role in creating small, consistent moments of proof for their teams.

Key Takeaways:
- Understand what belonging looks and feels like
- Consider how your organization may need to operate differently to support belonging
- Learn how to create belonging in your organization, and what hinders it

  • It is with great pleasure that I recommend Katie! Our company’s Partner Engagement Group, Woman’s Initiative Network, hosted Katie as a keynote speaker. Her topic was on ‘Stop Being Your Own Saboteur’ and she knocked it out of the park! Katie’s attention to detail was extremely evident in her polished and on-brand PowerPoint and professional handouts. She even provided us with an electronic copy of the handout ahead of time so that we could share copies with our remote partners to make them feel more included. Furthermore, I was extremely impressed with Katie’s stage presence, which can be hard to do when you are presenting to 100+ employees, both in person and remote. She was polished and succinct in her talking points, but also, 100% true to herself and not afraid to be a little silly and laugh. In a very short time, she was able to create a safe environment. This was evident in the fact that many participants were vulnerable and shared very personal stories/examples that I don’t believe they otherwise would have shared. So a big thanks to Katie for setting the tone by being authentic and creating a safe environment. Back to engagement, Katie never missed a beat and always made a point to talk-to and include our remote partners in the dialogue. It was also refreshing to see that she not only engaged our team with in-person questions/comments, but that she also provided a safe, anonymous way to participate electronically through mobile. This exercise was incredibly self-validating and connecting, one participant said it best, “my main take away is that we are all, in some ways, feeling or thinking the same way.” Thank you, Katie!
