I'm the only Chartered Psychologist in the world also qualified as a financial adviser. Organisations such as Chambers of Commerce,PR companies and professional bodies hire me to deliver talks include, "it's obvioius you know what you're talking about", "you're really entertaining" and "we always get a lot out of it that we sort of know, but don't really appreciate until you express it".
My main areas are
1. Personal and business finance and risk. I'm on the Chartered Insurance Institute and Personal Finance Society "Subject matter expert" lists for risk and psychology of finance. I'm a qualified member of both organisations. I've given talks to businesses such as IFA firms, banks and insurance companies and to regional and national conferences for professional organisations such as the Chartered Institute of Internal Audit, Institute of Chartered Accountants, CII and PFS and the British Psychological Society. Subects have included understanding financial risk, why we make mistakes with money and one of the most popular "why smart people make bad decisions".
2. Financial education. I've delivered talks for various organisations helping their staff to understand the company benefits, to avoid stress (and consequent financial loss) and to manage their personal finance better. I'm in consultation with, among others, the Money Advice Service, Citizen's Advice and Young Enterprise to try to improve financial capacity (of adults and children) and regualrly deliver talks in branches and to schools and potential sponsors around the habits of good money management and practical ways to develop those habits..
3. Public awareness of financial issues. I regularly appear in the media (written, radio and TV) as well as delivering talks and lectures. I'm the Money Matters editor for Vialucci magazine, creator of the website Tamingthepound.com and author of the books "Taming the pound" and "Finance Is Personal: Making Your Money Work for You in College and Beyond". I've talked publicly (such as on Ann Diamond's radio show) and in presentations about my experiences with finance and how people can make better use of money.
4. Executive selection and development. I've talked to regional and national conferences for groups such as the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and the BPS and Division of Occupational Psychology on areas such as effective methods of selection, how to improve decision making and the options with development and training. I've also worked with many organisations on coaching and making the most of their talent.
