Born in 1980 in Canada, Matthew Oldford is a dynamic entrepreneur, real estate investor, and developer. He founded Matty Renos, a residential renovation company celebrated for its seamless design-build process, meticulous attention to detail, and superior products. Additionally, he is accredited as a Chief Financial Planner (CFP).
Starting his career at 22, after studying at Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC), he joined a local construction firm where he quickly learned the ropes of building systems and construction methodologies. His early career also included a significant stint as a roofing quoting agent, where he rose to a managerial position, quoting projects valued between $20,000 and $250,000.
In 2007, he returned to NSCC to pursue investment management accreditation, which included various financial and securities courses. Afterward, he worked as a financial planner and then as a mobile mortgage specialist at Scotiabank. His financial career lasted until 2017, after which he returned to construction, taking up a foreman position at the Laborer's International Union of North America (LIUNA), managing 10 to 15 employees.
In 2018, leveraging his finance acumen and construction experience, he launched Matty Renos. His first project involved converting a residential property into an Airbnb, which proved financially rewarding. His initial success prompted more ambitious projects, including converting a single-family home into a duplex and later a duplex into a triplex, adding a secondary unit for a total of four units. He has since continued to work on client and personal development projects, gaining a robust local reputation.
His leadership at Matty Renos has steered the company to offer a range of services, including whole home renovations, kitchen and bathroom upgrades, and custom carpentry. His team is known for their professionalism, creativity, and commitment to delivering high-quality results that align with clients' visions.
Outside of work, he enjoys a balanced life filled with family time, reading, golf, and yoga. His commitment to fitness is integral to his lifestyle, prompted by the physical demands of his work. He is also an active volunteer with Feed Nova Scotia, contributing to its mission of supporting food banks, meal programs, and shelters across the province.
His journey from a novice in construction to a respected developer and community contributor underscores his dedication and skill in transforming both spaces and lives. His company, Matty Renos, continues to thrive, providing top-tier home construction and residential multi-unit services across HRM.
