Corporate leaders must not only develop people they must also adapt and evolve their organization or risk extinction. Oscar Wilde, the Irish dramatist, once said, “Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.” Occupying a minority status in any society, at any time in human civilization, has always required wearing a proverbial mask to ensure your basic survival, your invisibility was your saving grace. Being authentic does not require that you be an extrovert or that you wear your heart on your sleeve. It is a way of showing up in the world that is needed now more than ever as technology has made it difficult for people who believe traditional notions of power over others will move the needle. With the ability to record every seemingly mundane moment to on a camera phone to unexpected moments, when you are in authentic, lack integrity and are not in alignment with your deeper and more humane self - people will see through the mask of in-authenticity and will disengage. Stepping into your authentic self requires radical self acceptance.
