Bio

Nick Inglis is an expert in the information profession who is a keynote speaker, presenter, workshop facilitator, author, researcher, coach, and activist.

Nick Inglis is Executive Director, Content & Programming at ARMA International (formerly President of the Information Coalition, prior to the two organizations' merger), the leading provider of resources and best practices for the information profession. Inglis is the author of 'INFORMATION: The Comprehensive Overview of the Information Profession & Official INFO Designation Study Guide'. Mr. Inglis is a recipient of the Providence Ambassador Award and was named a 2018 Rhode Island "50 on Fire" for his work with both the information profession and his public advocacy.

Mr. Inglis' writing has been featured in U.S. News & World Report, The Providence Journal, Yahoo! Finance, CMSWire, and others. In addition to his work with the information profession, Inglis also leads public advocacy campaigns- he worked with Providence Student Union on ushering a subsidized college proposal through the RI State House - leading to Rhode Island becoming the 4th state in the U.S. to offer tuition-free community college to every graduating high school student, and ushered a proposal to establish Net Neutrality at the state level through an Executive Order from Governor Gina Raimondo.

Prior to his Co-Founding and leading the Information Coalition, Mr. Inglis served as the Director of Professional Development at AIIM and was one of the youngest Assistant Vice Presidents in Bank of America's history. When not adding to his collection of certificates and certifications (CIP, IGP, INFO, ERMm, SharePointm, BPMm, E2.0m, ECMm, IMCP), he is likely spending time with his son, Conor Atom.

Shutting Down The Shared Drive & Moving Forward Strategically

Organizations love shared drives because they're easy to set up, easy to deploy, and require little prior knowledge to utilize. Even with the best of intentions though, they easily become unwieldy and disorganized, making it harder to find information in your organization, not simpler. Beyond issues in manageability, shared drives are a hotbed of compliance and risk issues putting your organization at a substantially higher risk of non-compliance with privacy laws and a higher risk of lawsuit losses. Many organizations are considering or have decided to shut down their shared drives to move forward strategically, but how?

How can you get your organization on board with killing off the shared drive? When you do, what takes its place? How can you move your organization strategically forward and away from shared drive usage?

What Is An Information Professional?

Despite the many attempts to codify the information profession, we've been largely developing the profession with a hodgepodge of best practices and shared knowledge. Various factions, coming from different information disciplines have competing advice and different guidance with regards to the same corporate information (e.g. Records Managers vs. Data Scientists). After all of this time in the post-PC era, we've yet to have a true Information Profession.

What can be done to unify the profession and our professional practices towards the development of a unified vision of the Information Professional?

Entrenching Your Records Program In Your Organization

Records Management continues to struggle as its' influence wanes in organizations. How can Records Management move to the next level of entrenchment, ensure it remains viable, and leverage its' knowledge to maximize the information capabilities of the organization.

Breach!, A Strategy To Stop Data Loss Before It Happens

When a data breach has happened, it's already too late to do something about it. That's why it is so incredibly important to establish an overall strategy across all organizational information before a breach occurs. This session, provided from a business perspective, gives a framework and strategy upon which efforts to prevent data loss can be built.

  • On behalf of the Dallas Chapter of ARMA International, I would like to thank Nick for his energetic, timely and extremely informative presentation on Structuring an Information Governance Program to our ARMA Dallas / Fort Worth Spring Seminar attendees! Nick provided an 'Elements of IG' packet with toolkits that are useful as you implement an IG program at your organization. Nick armed us with valuable information and real world examples we can use when talking to Leadership at our organizations about Information Governance.
