Building Grit and Resilience

When life knocks us down, there are two brain tools that help us to pick ourselves back up: grit and resilience.

In psychological terms, resilience describes our emotional health. It's our ability to bounce back from challenges and the emotional strength we use to overcome crisis and failure. Grit, on the other hand, describes the mindset we use to persevere through challenges, crises, and failure.

These two brain tools work hand in hand. When life knocks us down, resilience gives us the emotional strength we need to get back on our feet. Grit is what makes us decide to get back up, brush ourselves off, and keep going.

In this session, you will:

- review four key elements for building grit and resilience;
- learn a fail-proof method for succeeding at your goals;
- discern the secret of staying resilient during times of crisis;
- discover the ten most powerful emotions to promote emotional wellbeing; and
-determine how to find your true passion and purpose.

FOCUS: How to Accomplish Your Most Important Goals in Work and Life

What creates FOCUS? When using a camera or a pair of binoculars, it’s the lens that converges light rays on the right target. But some lenses are better than others -- crystal clear lenses sharpen our focus while blurry lenses only cloud up the view.

Likewise, some "lenses" you and I use in work and life will help us stay focused on the personal or professional goals we have set for ourselves. If these goals remain in sharp focus, then our actions will move us closer to the life we want. Using blurry "lenses," on the other hand, will cause us to stumble further away.

In this session, you will:

- review the five best practices to become less distracted and more focused on your most important life goals;
- learn four steps to translate work and life goals into a detailed action plan;
- discover how to overcome the internal urges or external forces that distract from your goals; and
- learn practical tools to manage some major distractions at work, like email and meetings.

How to Overcome Burnout for Caregivers

Many who work in caregiving professions do so because they – and this will sound completely obvious – care. Compassion is their jam. It brings them immense joy.

But like any other fuel, compassion can and does get depleted under certain circumstances. The technical term for this is compassion fatigue.

Caring for others can drain our own physical and emotional strength. We feel spent and cynical. We have a hard time empathizing or caring about our clients/patients, co-workers, and even our loved ones.

Compassion fatigue affects healthcare workers, counselors and therapists, teachers and educators, correctional officers, ministers and clergy, and many others.

What can we do about it? How do we build trust? Where do we start?

This presentation will give an overview of the symptoms of compassion fatigue, how to recognize it in workers and how to measure its severity, and research-based techniques to address it.

Note: this topic is also available as a workshop.

Burnout and the Great Resignation: What You Need to Know

The data and debate around the great resignation can be boiled down to two questions: 1) What's causing it, and 2) What can be done about it?

The answer to the first question -- probably to no one's surprise -- seems to be burnout.

The equation seems pretty clear: stress of a global pandemic + ensuing burnout = great resignation.

But stress research can provide answers to the second question: what do we do about it? If we know how to deal with stress and burnout, we will get a different answer to the equation.

You will learn:

The stress continuum (and how to tell where you are on the continuum);
The signs of severe burnout and how they impact employee fit for duty;
Personal strategies to coping with stress and burnout; and
Organizational strategies to reduce burnout in their workforce.

How to Protect Your Mental Health During Covid-19 and Other Crises

We are now more than a year into a global pandemic, and the stress data is in. Four out of every five citizens from around the world have been impacted by Covid-19. Over half of Americans are now experiencing at least one negative mental health symptom.

In this 45-minute presentation, you will learn five simple "do's" and five "don'ts" to protect your mental health during times of crisis. This presentation can be customized and used for businesses, hospitals and health systems, high schools and universities, non-profits, and faith-based organizations.

How to Manage Your Stress (Instead of Stress Managing You): A Research-Based Stress Management Model

"Me? Stressed? Never!"

Let's be honest. Very few of us are lucky enough to say this. In fact, research studies show that 9 out of every 10 workers in the United States are experiencing significant workplace stress. Between 2020 and 2021, burnout rates doubled and worker engagement levels plummeted.

Chronic stress affects our physical and mental health. But it also significantly impacts organizations in terms of low productivity, absenteeism, and presenteeism.

Want to do something about it?

In this 50-minute presentation, you will learn a 3-part stress management model based on neuroscience and stress research.

This presentation is also available as a workshop.

How to Lead During Crisis

We see it in the news every day. It has hit our homes, our schools, and our workplaces.

It has not spared many communities, or indeed, many countries. The whole world seems in the throes of crisis.

We are still dealing with a global pandemic, social tensions and unrest, economic and engagement issues for organizations, balancing work responsibilities with the changes we may be experiencing in our overall lives, and so much more.

In this 50-minute presentation, you will learn a 3-part crisis management plan that will help prevent stress-related trauma and promote recovery and resilience at your organization.

This presentation is also available as a workshop.

Top 10 Strategies for Time and Priorities Management

"I always have plenty of time to get my work done," said NO ONE EVER. (Well, okay, maybe some people say this. They obviously don't need this seminar.)

In this 50-minute presentation, you will learn 10 best practices for time/priorities management developed by time management experts and stress research.

This presentation is also available as a workshop.

Top 10 Strategies for Communicating at Work

“How do I make sure this high-stakes conversation doesn’t go sideways?” “My team has lost their fire. How do I rekindle it?” “I have a great idea, but it needs more support. How do I create the right buzz?” “I have a conflict with someone at work and I have no idea what to do about it.”

Do any of these sound familiar?

In this 50-minute presentation, you will learn the 10 best practices for having challenging conversations.

This presentation is also available as a workshop.

  • Pamela is a highly skilled speaker, certified executive coach and neuroscientist who used her combined talents to deliver one of the best group training sessions offered in the 30-year history of our leadership program. The session was focused on issues related to managing burnout and the great resignation, which were both timely and relevant for the diverse group of business, public and nonprofit leaders in our program. Pamela was extremely organized and easy to work with, and customized the training to perfectly fit our needs. I would not hesitate to recommend her to others and work with her again!

  • Pamela Coburn-Litvak is an expert on stress and burnout. In her webinar 'Burnout & The Great Resignation: What You Need To Know', Pamela covers a very current and relevant topic. She is an extremely polished speaker who speak with passion, provides statistics but most importantly, practical advice and proven methods to help those who are dealing with stress and burnout. This is particularly important as we navigate our way out of the past two years of dealing with COVID-19. I would highly recommend Pamela as a speaker for companies who are looking to improve mental wellness within their teams.

  • Pam facilitated a time management workshop for our team. Prior to our workshop, she took the time to meet with our organization’s President and me to discuss our organization and really understand the time management issues our team had been having. Pam provided some excellent insights during our workshop and really got our team talking about some of their time management challenges. Throughout the workshop, she offered our group useful strategies and thought-provoking suggestions on how to improve our time management. I highly recommend Pam's training sessions.

  • Pamela Coburn-Litvak has both great expertise and an ability to help others create change. I recently attended her webinar on Burnout and the Great Resignation. Her research on that important topic is thorough and deep. She understands the dynamics in society and in the workplace that have led us to this crisis. More importantly, she offers real solutions to managers and leaders who have the courage and will to tackle the problem and to develop better workplaces. I strongly recommend Pam as a speaker who will both inspire you and also help you move to action. Debra Hunter, former CEO and COO, Principal of Debra Hunter Consulting

  • 18 months into the pandemic, our team was feeling the heat. We invited Pamela to a one hour company meeting and gave her the tall order of communicating clear, actionable ways the team could prioritize activity to help reduce stress. Having the entire company hear this advice as the same time led to an almost immediate change in our expectations of each other- no more instant demands for attention and time! Pamela did an excellent job of keeping our attention and soliciting real time involvement (I was nervous it would seem like a lecture, and that was not the case at all.). I can enthusiastically recommend Pamela to create a create a program that works for your goals, in your parameters and that delivers on the promise of actionable takeaways. Plus you will just like her. :)

  • Pam draws from a deep background of stress research to create engaging and informative workshops for business leaders. The Fresno Chaffee Zoo appreciated her presentation on compassion fatigue so much that we asked for an encore presentation at the annual Association of Zoos and Aquariums Conference. Pam works extensively with her clients to customize every workshop or presentation to fit their needs.

  • “Pamela facilitated a fantastic Stress Management session for Chegg’s geographically distributed employees. Ensuring all our employees were engaged and felt comfortable sharing their experiences via zoom wasn’t easy, but Pamela and her co-presenter Kate handled it with aplomb. The combination of providing a forum for our employees to discuss their challenges during COVID, sharing some theory, and then outlining Stress Management strategies was a winning formula. We have received so much positive feedback about the session and we are eager for Pam and Kate to come back – they left our employees wanting more! Pam was a joy to work with. Responsive, flexible, and willing to work with us to tailor the Stress Management session to the specific needs of our employees. Chegg was extremely grateful, and it made for a more compelling session, that these experts were able to adapt their delivery so that the session felt totally customized for us. We look forward to a continued, long-term partnership with Pam.”

  • I have had the privilege to attend several or Pam’s presentations and workshops! Pam is bright and engaging and I learn something new in each session. Some webinars can be boring, but Pam’s delivery and insights kept me fully attentive and fascinated. I love that she brings such deep academic expertise forward without being intimidating or speaking “over the heads” of her audiences. She clearly customizes her content to the specific needs of each audience and is generous in sharing tools and resources that actually work! I’ve used several of Pam’s workbooks and articles and have seen great results in the business world by using her practical approaches and tools. I cannot recommend Dr. Pamela Coburn-Litvak enough – she is exceptional!

  • The Rebound 2021 webinar was very beneficial. During the past year, there have been many changes to navigate through personally and professionally. The webinar provided practical points that I can incorporate now to handle the daily stresses. Something as simple as taking time to go outside for a walk and make sure to include self-care time were tips that I have already implemented and they have made a difference in my stress level. Pam was very knowledgeable on the subject and I really enjoyed the take home materials they provided, which I can reference at any time in the future.

  • This was one of the most informative webinars I’ve attended in a long time! I came away with important new insights and ways to combat burnout. It was also a great reminder that some things I know I ought to be doing for self-care have fallen by the wayside during covid. I’m excited to share my learnings with my clients and also work on filling up my tank! (Jennifer Schmelter, Principal, Sapphire Compass)

  • Building a business in 2020 has certainly been a rollercoaster, and this year won't be a walk in the park either. Attending the Rebound 2021 webinar made me feel that I'm not alone. Not only was it chock-full of industry insights, but it also gave me (and others on the call) a chance to take a pulse of our own stress levels and what's causing us stress, and an action plan to manage stress and get re-energize. Great session!

She the blends that with experience and practical advice to show individuals how to deal with some of the fall out of stress, like depression and anxiety.
