Pierre Mortemousque has built an impressive 25-year tenure in the footwear industry, highlighted by his expertise in sales, product development, and sourcing. Originating from the tiny French town of Tonneins, he relocated to the United States to earn a Business Administration degree from Elon University. His post-graduation career started in international sales at a French firm, setting the foundation for his eventual entrepreneurial venture, Pierre Inc., launched in Lynchburg, Virginia, in 2009. This company quickly became known for producing innovative, cost-effective footwear for prominent U.S. retailers.
At 18, Pierre took his first steps in America as a foreign exchange student at Parrott Academy in North Carolina. This year-long program immersed him in American culture, vastly improved his English, and prepared him for future international business relations.
After the exchange, he continued his education at Elon University, balancing his academic pursuits in Business Administration and Economics with playing on the soccer team. Graduating in 1989, he had already honed the skills necessary for tackling the business world.
Upon returning to France, he joined Sofrace, where he managed Middle Eastern sales from 1989 to 1992. His role required extensive travel across regions like the Emirates, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia, helping him build a solid network and learn the intricacies of international market dynamics.
After his 1992 marriage, Pierre relocated to Lynchburg, Virginia, and shifted his focus from corporate roles to education. He taught French and Spanish and coached soccer at Virginia Episcopal School until 1996, deepening his roots in the community and influencing young students with his passion for language and sport.
Re-entering the footwear industry in 1996, he joined Consolidated Shoe Company in Lynchburg, climbing the ranks to become Vice President of Tradewinds Europe. His role here involved managing and expanding the company's off-company retail channels, which enriched his understanding of the U.S. retail market.
The launch of Pierre Inc. in 2009 was a significant career milestone. The company designs and manufactures affordable footwear, primarily focusing on women's and children's apparel. The strategic decision to establish production facilities in China allows the company to maintain competitive pricing and manage production challenges effectively.
