Bio

Sean has spent the bulk of his adult life teaching in classrooms and presenting on stages (on five continents!), including several years teaching high school in NYC and more than a decade teacher training for Oxford Seminars.

He is the founder of Grit: True Stories that Matter, an organization dedicated to helping people craft and tell better, more engaging, more relatable and more memorable personal stories with an emphasis on those stories that are especially difficult or challenging.

In addition to producing 100+ live shows and a weekly podcast, facilitating hundreds of masterminds and leading dozens of workshops, he is a multiple-Moth Story Slam winner and the 2021 National Storytelling Network's Grand Slam Champion.

He's a story geek!

Sean is also a Crisis Text Line counselor and producer/host of the Suicide Noted podcast, where he talks candidly with suicide attempt survivors.

His goal, more than anything else, is to help people feel a little less alone and a little more connected.

Whether it's your campus, conference, corporation or community, Sean blends humor and inquiry, personal stories and tangible takeaways.

STORIES THAT MATTER

We all have stories inside us, the ones we need to get out, the ones the world needs to hear - the ones that really matter.

These stories can change lives, sometimes save lives, but most of us never learn how craft and tell them in ways that are engaging, relatable and memorable. Let's make your stories matter!

The Stories that Matter Program's 5S Framework centers on...
◦ Why personal stories matter
◦ 3 secrets to all great stories
◦ 5 core craft components (simplified)
◦ Rockstar stage presentation tips

Sean leverages his years on stage as a personal narrative storyteller, theatre practitioner, improviser, solo show artist and founder of GRIT: True Stories that Matter to help you craft and tell stories that matter...

✔ Speak or sell from stage
✔ Boost your confidence
✔ Nail your upcoming interview
✔ Help others feel less alone
✔ Or just finally 'get it out'

"Sean is a master storyteller and coach"

CONVERSATIONS THAT MATTER

Most of us don't learn how to listen, or learn how to effectively engage in conversations, especially the ones that matter. And the
world is only getting noisier! So we've got a problem.

People are dying to be heard - how about we hear them?

Sean leverages his three decades dedicated to creating and cultivating space(s) to help people feel less alone and more connected. He is a crisis counselor, and the founder/host of the Grit: True Stories that Matter and Suicide Noted podcasts. The Conversations that Matter Program examines and illuminates...

◦ The power (and paradox) of silence
◦ The 7 conversation closers to avoid
◦ What we can learn from improv(isation)
◦ 3 essential questions to always ask
◦ The (not to secret) secret to holding space
◦ The B.O.L.D. Blueprint!

"I appreciate everything you do to help people learn to tell and listen to important stories. You are amazingly good!"
- Carolyn Erickson (Mexico)

SUICIDE NOTED: Slaying Stigma, Silence & Suffering

Every year, millions of people around the world try to take their own lives and we almost never talk about. When we do talk about it, many of us don't know how.

People are in profound pain, often life-threatening pain, and while many of us are well intentioned in our efforts to help, we too often judge and shame, invalidate or simply outsource empathy, leading to more and more people suffering in silence.

Sean lost his best friend to suicide and has battled his own mental health demons for more than two decades. He started the Suicide Noted podcast in the summer of 2020, and has engaged in 120 in-depth, candid conversations with suicide attempt survivors.

The Suicide Noted Program explores and illustrates...

◦ Why attempt survivor stories matter
◦ Why loneliness is a growing epidemic
◦ How curiosity and empathy are linked
◦ The myriad myths around suicide and suicidailty

Let's slay silence
Let's slay stigma
Let's slay suffering
