For more than twenty five years, Robert ‘Doc’ Barham has been coaching people to improve themselves and their performance in their personal lives and their businesses. His path to coaching is unique. Starting when Doc was seven years old, his father was his coach in different league sports including baseball, basketball and football. He learned about coaching by watching and assisting his father and asking questions and having coaching conversations. That same year his father helped him to be cast in his first professional performing arts work as an actor in Giacomo Puccini's musical Turandot at Wolftrap Theatre. Years later, in high school, Doc volunteered as an elementary school basketball coach and later he worked as a counselor helping children in grades K-6. In college, he made a start as a stand up comedian by producing a comedy show in Blacksburg, Virginia while majoring in Theatre Arts with an emphasis in acting at Virginia Tech University’s School Of Performing Arts. He also DJed and hosted a music radio show at the university radio station WUVT FM. The stand up comedy show was a big hit, and in its second year, moved to another venue adjacent to the university campus downtown. While still in school, he was invited to open as a stand up comedian for Ellen Degeneres at an on campus taping of HBO’s Comic Relief. Soon after he decided to become a professional entertainer. He toured the United States and Canada as a standup comedian and stage hypnotist, headlining comedy clubs, colleges, and companies, while appearing on morning radio shows around the nation. Conversations with a friend who was also a professional comedian inspired him relocate from his home state of Virginia to Haight Ashbury in San Francisco, California. In 1998, his agent landed him an audition at the the famous Improv in Hollywood on Melrose Avenue. He was one of twelve comedians selected from a field of over two thousand auditioners worldwide who performed in the New Faces Of Comedy Showcase at the prestigious Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal Canada. Later, he was invited to New York City to perform on Comedy Central’s Two Drink Minimum with comedians Jake Johanssen, Mark Maron and Dave Atell. While on tour, he recorded a sold out headline show at the Funnybone in Boise, Idaho which led to the release of a 70 minute live stand up comedy album titled 'Global Village Idiot'. Doc was also invited to be a performing artist for Laughing Hyena Records and has been featured on four of the label's professional stand up comedy various artists albums. He added a second career after being offered the roles of Director of Personnel Development and Director Of New Products And Services for a nationally known health and wellness company. While there, he worked as the executive business coach to the senior leadership team, composed of 16 owner-supervisors and the lead trainer for programs for the company employees. In 2001, he moved to Los Angeles, California to work with Positive Changes Hypnosis Centers and to continue his work as a professional entertainer. While still in Los Angeles, he started his own executive coaching and hypnotherapy practice, consulting with high performance clients from such diverse organizations as Mind Valley, the NBA, NCAA, PGA, NASCAR, World Series of Poker, Zappos, Country Music Association, Playboy, Warner Music Group, Zappos, Oprah Winfrey Network and Hyperloop Transportation Technologies. In 2018, we started a coaching business, just one client at a time, solving real problems for small business owners who were overwhelmed, losing money, or simply couldn’t get their teams to execute. We called it Accountability Now because that’s what was missing: accountability, structure, and clear follow-through. One of our early clients was Noomii.com, a coaching directory with potential but no real direction. We worked closely with them, helping the company grow from the inside. Six years later, we came back and bought the business. That’s the story. Today, I lead Accountability Now and Noomii.com. At Accountability Now, we work with small business owners who are trying everything but nothing’s moving fast enough. We help them focus, fix what’s broken, and build a business that works better than it did before. At Noomii, we support coaches who want to grow real practices. Not just get more leads, but actually build something that lasts. In an industry full of people preying on coaches with empty promises, we do the opposite we offer tools, community, and actual results. I’m also the author of SCORE, a framework that challenges everything we’ve been taught about scaling a business and accountability. We’ve misunderstood it for decades. Accountability isn’t just a leadership skill. It’s the catalyst of epic performance and, when misused, the addiction behind toxic cultures and bad behavior. I also contribute to Forbes and serve as Head of the Forbes AI Council, where I lead deep, honest conversations with top experts about what AI is really doing to business, leadership, and work. These aren’t surface-level talks. They’re the conversations that matter, grounded in the real-world impact AI is already having. With Accountabiltiy Now helped hundreds of business owners regain control of their companies. With Noomii, we've helped thousands of coaches get better at what they do and get paid for it. We didn’t start with a big vision. We started by solving one hard problem after another. And we’re still doing it.
