Dr. Lina AbiRafeh is the Executive Director of the Arab Institute for Women (AiW) at the Lebanese American University, based in New York and Lebanon. She has served in this position since 2015. The Institute was established in 1973 as the first women’s institute in the Arab region – and one of the first globally. Lina brings a strong feminist activist orientation to the Institute, promoting education and research to advance social change and policy change – and ultimately to improve the lives of women and girls in the Arab region. Prior to joining AiW, Lina spent over 20 years in development and humanitarian contexts, working with the United Nations and other international organizations in countries such as Afghanistan, Haiti, Democratic Republic of Congo, Nepal, and others. Her specific expertise is in gender-based violence prevention and response, summarized by her TEDx talk, Women Deliver PowerTalk, keynote address for Swedish International Development Agency annual meeting, and podcast interview, amongst others. Lina completed her doctoral work from the London School of Economics and published “Gender and International Aid in Afghanistan: The Politics and Effects of Intervention” based on her research. She speaks and publishes frequently on a range of gender issues such as gender-based violence, sexual and reproductive health and rights, what’s holding Arab women back from equality, bodily integrity and autonomy, female humanitarian aid workers, women in conflict – for instance in Sudan and Yemen, and so on. Recently, Lina has been focused on the need for a feminist response to the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on Arab women and girls. Lina is active on Twitter and blogs on current issues including the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, Palestine and feminism, and other critical conversations. Lina is frequently in the media, for instance in The Native Society, where she shared her story as a feminist activist. Additionally, Lina is a board member of various organizations including SheDecides, Forced Migration Review, Society of Gender Professionals, and Greenpeace MENA, amongst others. In 2018, Lina was listed as one of the Gender Equality Top 100: The Most Influential People in Global Policy - one of only two Arabs to make the list. She received this honor again in 2019 from over 9000 nominations.

Lindsay Gutierrez, a born and raised Sooner from Midwest City, Oklahoma, is a veteran of the United States Air Force. She enlisted in the Air Force as a Security Forces Journeyman in September 2010 and after completing technical training at Lackland Air Force Base, she was assigned to the 48th Fighter Wing, Royal Air Force Lakenheath (RAFL), United Kingdom. Lindsay remained at RAFL until she was honorably discharged after fulfilling her 6 years of service. Upon separation from the Air Force, she found the transition back to civilian life came with many challenges – one of which was finding her identity post-military. Lindsay missed the comradery of the military and sought out methods to remain involved with that demographic. Additionally, she wanted to find a way to use her history in the Air Force as a source to advocate for military social issues in her community. It was during a complicated time in her life that Lindsay came across Ms. Veteran America and realized this was the perfect organization that coupled everything she was looking for into one. Although grace, beauty, poise, and service are highlighted during the competition, participants are role models for other women and girls through empowerment, advocacy, and raising awareness for homeless women veterans. In October 2017, Lindsay was crowned Ms. Veteran America and became the new ambassador for the competition’s beneficiary, Final Salute Inc. Through the military and outside experiences, Lindsay was able to find her calling as an advocate for social needs through awareness and education. In 2020, she obtained her Masters of Social Work from Arizona State University, concentrating in areas such as advocacy for veterans, legislation, policy change, and community outreach. Lindsay remains a faithful servant to many civic and non-profit organizations. She’s an active member of the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary Post #336, volunteers with D.A.R.E. (Defending, Advocating, Rescuing, and Educating) Animal Rescue, and serves as member of IGNITE National’s inaugural Speakers Bureau. Furthermore, she also sits on the Board of Trustees for the Youth Impact Center the veteran-founded organization, Veterans First Light. These days, Lindsay can be found studying in preparation for the LSAT. Her goal is to attend law school and combine her degrees to pursue human rights and/or public service law. During her downtime, Lindsay enjoys reading, painting, shopping, participating in pageants, listening to true crime podcasts, mudding in her four-wheeler with friends and family, and exercising. Lindsay resides in Lakeland, Georgia with her fur babies (2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 potbelly pigs, 4 chickens, and 1 hermit crab) and active-duty husband, Anthony, an Equipment Maintenance Craftsman at Moody Air Force Base.

Girls Chronically Rock LLC was inspired by Keisha Greaves whom is from Cambridge, MA whom always had a passion for Fashion and knew one day she would own her own business. Girls Chronically Rock was inspired by Keisha who was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy in 2011 while pursuing her MBA degree in graduate school. Keisha started to feel very weird symptoms in her legs and upper body with repeatedly falling and could raise her arm up to the full extent and she knew something was not right. After doing many different testing’s, the Doctor finally diagnosed her with Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy. Fast forward a few years later, Keisha began to cope at the fact that she had Muscular Dystrophy and knew she wouldn’t let this stop pursuing her dreams. Keisha wanted to create an apparel line something that incorporated the word “chronic” in it to abbreviate Chronic Illness. So, one day Girls Chronically Rock came to my mind and she loved it and knew she wanted that to be her business name. She wanted to create something to inspire and motivate others who maybe battling a chronic illness or going through something in their everyday life. She created a line if inspirational shirts that have many quotes/meanings and the top two are: such “Trust Your Dopeness” which means trust and believe in yourself, no matter what you maybe going through, or what to accomplish, “trust your dopeness.” Another one she says is” Hello my name is Chronically Ill Badass” which means we are awesome regardless if we have a chronic illness or not and we are proud of it. Keisha plans to expand her Girls Chronically Rock brand with many more merchandise soon such as bags, socks and sweatshirts and many more. Keisha has also been thinking to creating a Girls Chronically Rock adaptive clothing line for people with disabilities since it is very hard for people with disabilities to get dressed on a regular basis. Keisha continues to have so many ideas she wants to do with Girls Chronically Rock business and turn it into bigger and better things under the GCR umbrella.
