My goal is to Help caregivers and their families thrive! Caring for a loved one is difficult, and no two journeys are exactly alike. Mine was a crash course in dementia care—times two! Now, I’m encouraging you on your own journey down this emotionally difficult road, offering you tips and information I learned along the way. At the age of 29 I became the caregiver for my biological father’s parents, both of whom had different forms of dementia. Throughout my tenure as their caregiver, my own emotions ran the gamut from tears to laughter, tender love to heartbreaking grief; but I was always glad to be able to care for two people who had been so good to me; it was a joy for me to give back to them.

I am a single mother of three, who survived 23+ years of sexual and domestic abuse. I believe that NO ONE has the right to bully another person. I am a social services customer professional by day, DV advocate always. I have been speaking out, sharing my survivor story. I have an inspirational FB page for DV victims/survivors, as well as a blog. I also write for a DV survivor magazine and am a moderator for a "safe space" for all abuse victims. Currently writing a DV survivor book and am always looking for speaking opportunities -- because you never know what battles others are going through and perhaps my story may inspire someone to finally get away from the abuse or help others to escape the abuse.

I used to do event video in New York for Columbia University, the NewYork Presbyterian Hospitals of Columbia & Cornell, the Women’s Economic Roundtable of New York, the Manhattan Institute, the Media Law Resource Center and C-SPAN from 1997-2009 and 2010-2013. I am now retired and with my wife live in Seattle, Washington. I am also associated with the September 11 Memorial Museum. Beginning September 11, 2001, and for six years I collected event materials at 200 very special occasions in New York City which had something to do with 9/11 and subsequent wars. These were events I either helped videotape or went to on my own. The collection includes over 1000 images of the event materials I alone gathered at those occasions - fliers, brochures, cards, press releases, copies of speeches and programs. Placed in the chronological order I acquired them, with the names of the participants, dates, locations and stories or anecdotes about each, I will tell a unique story. It also includes autographs: I got a lot of the participants to sign the event materials. My presentation normally includes over 300 images. It is a paper history of how I experienced the aftermath of 9/11. It is a narrative memoir. It is untold New York 9/11 aftermath history. I intend to begin presentations in February on Zoom. In around 45 minutes I will go through as many of the events and stories as possible, then open it for questions - for one hour total. (If you so desire you are invited to sign up for a follow-up talk.) I intend to do this through September 2021 in commemoration of the 20th Anniversary of 9/11. Therefore I will only accept donations. I have given talks about the archive in Queens, Manhattan and Seattle from 2010 - 2019, and on Zoom in 2020. And already am giving a talk this year on January 28th.

Aswad Thomas was born on the north end of Hartford, Connecticut. He grew up in a single-parent home along with four older brothers. He lived in a community riddled with systemic and personal barriers that provided little to no hope for young men of color. Despite these obstacles, Aswad went on to excel in the classroom and on the basketball court at Elms College in Chicopee, MA. During his basketball career, Aswad helped lead the men’s basketball team to the program’s first-ever and school’s first-ever victory in the NCAA Division III tournament and was the NCAA Division III Statistical Champion in steals per game. On May 6, 2009, Aswad became the first male in his family to graduate from college with a Bachelor's Degree. On August 24, 2009, just three weeks from going to Europe to play professional basketball, his life changed forever. He became a victim of gun violence. As he left a convenience store, two men approached him, intending to rob him. After a brief scuffle, eight shots were fired as he tried to run back into the store. Two bullets pierced through his back, collapsing his lungs, dislocating his shoulder, and just missing his spinal cord and aorta by inches. These two near-fatal gunshots to his back ended his basketball career. He was released from the hospital back into the same community where the incident happened with little support to heal from this tragedy. After years of physical and emotional pain, he started a new journey in his life by becoming one of the nation's most outspoken supporters of additional resources for victims of violence in urban communities and has been a leader in building coalitions across racial lines to address criminal justice reform and violence prevention. In 2015, Aswad graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Social Work with a Master’s Degree in Social Work and later made Connecticut history by becoming the first student ever to win the NASW-CT Chapter Social Worker of the Year award while still being enrolled in school. Aswad’s story has been featured in the New York Times, Time Magazine, The Hill, New Yorker Magazine, NBC LX, MSNBC, NBCLX, Huffington Post, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, The Trace, Detroit Free Press, The Guardian, NPR, VICE, The Marshall Project, Hartford Courant, and dozens of other media outlets. He is currently the Managing Director at Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice, a flagship project of the Alliance for Safety and Justice. He helps expand a national network of crime survivors to include those most commonly affected by violence, including young men of color, and help elevate those voices in local, state, and federal policymaking debates. Aswad is the Co-Founder of King & Queen Publishing, creator of the Black Men That Write Podcast and author of The Stars Represent You and Me. Aswad received an MSW, with a Community Organizing concentration from the University of Connecticut and a B.A. from Elms.

Hi! I am Kayla! My relationship with interior design started way back when I was about 5 years old. My parents had bought a house that needed a lot of help, and they went about making it a most beautiful home. I was enthralled with the process and never really got over it. I used to sketch layouts in class, binge watched YouTube videos on how to design, and even took any free course on interior design that the internet provided. When it came time to go to college, I was advised to go for architecture. I had the brains for it and it would make more money than interior design. I listened and graduated with an architectural engineering and interior design degree. I moved to the US (grew up in Israel) and got a job as a drafter in an architects office. Eventually I moved to work in an interior design firm as an assistant, I learned a lot there and started generating client leads on my own. Eventually, I decided to go full-in on my own business. I recently moved to Pomona, NY and have been designing homes for lovely and amazing families and I could not be happier. I get to spend time with my two kids, take care of my own home, and follow my passion to bring moms dreams to life. I really do honestly and truly believe that your surroundings impact your moods, productivity, and energy levels. I have seen the transformation in moms when they love their homes and their homes work. I have seen it so many times, and been inspired by it, that I vowed to never stop.
