Dragged to musical theater performances in the suburb of Albany as a child, Samuel discovered his talent for acting and singing early on and later learned how to play piano. Samuel's first acting gig materialized when he played Simba in The Lion King as a five-year-old (setting his precocious sights on a career in acting then). He followed this up with an appearance in Target commercials in 2000. Following their separation as a toddler, Samuel discovered and met his parents for the first time in 2001 after watching Fox News and CNN. When he was just 14 years old, Samuel worked for the State Capitol in Olympia, Washington, under Christine Gregory before turning down a full-time internship offer to work under Barack Obama in 2010—instead deciding to return to school and complete his junior and senior years.
