Bio

“I help people to create better, more fulfilling relationships.”

Gregory Canillas, Ph.D., is a psychologist, life strategist and relationship and parenting expert. He currently teaches in a clinical psychology doctoral program at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology (Los Angeles campus). He also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Pepperdine and National Universities in the Master of Arts in Marriage & Family Therapy program. Previously, he has served on the faculties of the Loyola Marymount University, Antioch University-Los Angeles and the University of California, Santa Cruz.

With over two decades of teaching, administrative and clinical experience, he has presented over 100 workshops nationally and on four continents. The workshops have focused on couple/relationship issues; parenting; spirituality; familial violence; community violence/trauma; clients of color; and LGBTQIA clients.

Known to colleagues and students as “Doc”, he takes a “keep it real” approach to his work both with clients, consultees and in training the next generation of therapists. His easy-going attitude, coupled with a sharp insight that misses nothing, has made him popular with students and clients alike.

Previously, he served as a Program Director at several nonprofit organizations, overseeing child mental health, adult mental health and pregnant/parenting teen programs. He is currently in his sixth year of service on the Commission on Youth and Children (Long Beach, California), a body that advises the Mayor and city council on issues of importance to children, adolescents and families in that city. He is also a published poet. He is the author of two forthcoming books: “Sticks and Stones: Healing from Verbal Abuse” and “Cheaters: Recovering from Infidelity.”

An avid traveler, Doc has visited thirty-three of the fifty states and abroad to Europe, Asia, Africa, Canada, the Caribbean and Mexico.

Doc currently helps individuals, families and organizations to develop better relationships, achieve their career goals and lead more fulfilling and happy lives.
