Personal Details

Bio

I am a gender studies scholar who now acts as a public speaker, workshop facilitator, and gender consultant. For the past five years, I have been teaching gender studies courses at UCLA, such as: Trans Magic, Queer/Trans Resistances, Queer and Trans Muslim Feminisms. In addition to completing my M.A. and Ph.D. in Gender Studies at UCLA, I've also served on UCLA’s Trans Wellness Team for three years, working to provide gender-affirming healthcare to trans, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming students across the University of California system.

Now I practice as public speaker, bringing years of academic experience into dialogue with my personal experience as a trans adult. I have trained hundreds of medical students, corporate offices, and university audiences in a wide array speaking events. I have spoken for audiences at Google, The UC Regents, UCLA, USC, UC Davis, among many others.

By combining my personal and academic expertise, I create effective, meaningful, and insightful presentations for audiences across the globe.

A Story of Trans Joy

In this talk, I share my personal experience with embracing my trans identity, outlining a journey through consciousness. Sorting through notions of fear, shame, and guilt, I share how reaching trans joy radically transformed my entire mindset, and sense of self. I offer my story as a token of hope for what is possible, as well as lessons and guidance on how to lovingly receive trans coworkers, friends, and loved ones as they experience gender transition.

Nonbinary PoC Experiences: An Intimate Approach to Trans Affirmative Mental Health

In this presentation, I share important insight into nonbinary/trans PoC life - the specific concerns of racialized gender transition - and how mental health professionals can best equip themselves to assist their clients. I center reflection, honesty, and gender/racial literacy to ensure that therapists in training know how to better serve their clients.

Our Bodies, Our Choice: LGBTQ+ Reproductive Justice & Domestic Violence Awareness Panel

Offered insight from a trans/transmasculine perspective on reproductive justice and activism. How to include and integrate trans experiences in reproductive care and consciousness.

Exploring Queer & Trans Spiritualities: A Joy-Centered Approach

In this workshop, l facilitate a discussion on how queerness and
transness intersect with the spiritual, the mystical, and the religious realms. Using joy as a focal point, they will invite us to explore the untapped potentials of queer/trans spirituality.

Acid Trips & Queer Love: Queer/Trans Iranian American Explorations of God

Outlining the myriad ways trans and nonbinary Iranian Americans conceptualize God, this presentation explores how such individuals understand divinity within, around, and through Islam. Drawing
from stories of psychedelics and queer love, this work centers the lived experiences of trans/nonbinary Iranian Americans in the Los Angeles diaspora and how they come to visualize, dream up, and relate to notions of divine power. This attention to the spiritual invites a reimagination of what is considered possible, liberatory, and affirming of trans life and our futures.
