  • Dr. V recently delivered an electric, personal, and moving keynote address for Bradley University's Black Student Summit. Over 70 students sat intently engaged during her remarks. On the program evaluation, one student wrote: "The keynote speaker gave a lot of great advice and history that i did not know about. It was very relatable and she spoke about things that most people aren’t comfortable with when others are around. She touched on things that I was not consciously aware of. She made me want to speak out more and take action." This student's reflection illustrates Dr. V's impressive and humanizing balance between research, authenticity, and empowerment in her work. Informally, I believe more than 50% of the students made some contact with her following her keynote address, as she returned to her seat. Amazing, absolutely amazing! Thank you Dr. V!

  • Eureka College has had the pleasure to have Dr. Venus Evans-Winters (Dr. V) visit campus a few times this academic year (2018-2019). Dr. V presented to a class on the African American Vernacular English (AAVE) where she gave Eureka students several different perspectives on the knowledge around AAVE to help prepare them as they enter their professions. In addition to speaking with our students, Dr. V attended a networking social that was developed to teach first-generation college students how to network in certain professional spaces. We are very thankful for Dr. V's time and energy that she always shares with us here at Eureka College. Dr. V facilitates difficult conversations; challengng students to develop their critical awareness. We look forward to working with Dr. V again! Jess Brown, M.Ed.
