Wayne Gregori is a technologist and entrepreneur that has the rare talent of translating the complex world of Bitcoin and blockchain out of the abstract and into concrete, real world examples in a fluid and entertaining manner. He first took an interest in Bitcoin in 2014 thanks to the innovation and promise of blockchain technology (the foundational bitcoin technology). But over time he became equally interested in the potential social impact Bitcoin/blockchain might have on our human communities and on the institutions upon which society relies so heavily; government, finance (banking) and security.
In his presentation, Bitcoin: “The Fight for our Next Money” Wayne will examine the history of money, how our money has changed, the intellectual underpinning of bitcoin, the larger world of crypto currency (bitcoin copycats), how bitcoin works and the social drivers that might lead an electronic currency like bitcoin to work side-by-side the US dollar.
Wayne’s interest in the intersection of technology and society began in 1991 prior to the birth of the Web when he created a thriving online community in the coffee houses of San Francisco (sfnet.org.) The SFnet system was the first company to introduce internet service in a public domain thus creating the internet cafe. Following SFnet, Wayne created a number of online companies including Leadx.com, a community where participants could buy and sell business contacts and Openfence.com, a community based advertising network that supported local schools and non-profits.
As a public speaker, Wayne enjoys bringing his audience on a journey that not only reveals the underpinning of how the technology works but, more importantly, how it impacts our human community today and in the future.
