Stu Angus was born in London, England and grew up in the suburbs of Boston, Massachusetts. He earned a dual degree in chemical engineering and biochemistry from Syracuse University, and graduated in 2007 before enrolling in the biophysics PhD program at the University of Chicago. While he was a student at UChicago, he started experiencing his first delusions and symptoms of mental illness, which forced him to withdraw from his PhD program and move back home to Massachusetts. He struggled with his mental illness for the next 14 years, bouncing in and out of mental hospitals, battling dysfunction and going insane before he stabilized psychiatrically.
