The Comedians with Disabilities Act (CWDA) is a fabulous collection of comedians who have disabilities, both seen and unseen, and bring forth the humor they find in their experiences. The show is the brainchild of comedian Michael O’Connell, who started the group in 2010, and was later joined by Steve Danner and Nina G not long after. In 2016, O’Connell sadly passed away - but the show he created lives on, spotlighting a variety of Disabled and outrageously funny comedians. The very first CWDA comedy documentary/comedy special is due out in 2027! Going on its sixteenth year, the Comedians with Disabilities Act tours the country for in person live events as well as virtual shows online. The Comedians with Disabilities Act brings laughter and Disability awareness/celebration to colleges, corporations, fundraisers and conferences. There are ten comedians who work with the group. I am a young adult with autism who is an author, speaker, self-advocate and educator on disabilities and inclusion. I am the author of a children's guide on how to treat people with disabilities and a children's book that I not only wrote but illustrated as well called " Timmy's Story: A Story About Autism and Friendship. Most people call me "Doc," and I am a storyteller. I have a passion and a gift for sharing stories that lift the spirit. As a child, I wondered what talent or skill did I have. I saw how some of my classmates were intelligent, and others could dance, sing, or play an instrument much better than I could, but my classmates would say Anthony never shuts up. I discovered I enjoyed telling stories and public speaking. As a teacher and a reading lover, I taught students literacy. I have enough books at home to fill a library. A storyteller must also be an avid reader to be able to tell stories. I am blessed with the ability to create my own stories in auditory or written form. I have shared my stories on dozens of retreat weekends for men, home church, Bible study groups, and prayer meetings for over 40 years. The research and writing for two doctorate degrees, one in Education and the other in Theology, have increased the scope of themes and blended them with others to create exciting stories that help people with their life themes and the struggles of living. Life can be messy at times, with a variety of losses, including the loss of a child or a loved one. We are either living God's plan or not. We are using His gifts or not. Real education is not necessarily a product of education taught in elementary and university schools but by working with the Holy Spirit. I write fiction and non-fiction using the Holy Spirit's insights. A lesson I learned 53 years ago from Psalm 46:10: "Be still and know that I Am God." Authors may forget that the most incredible author is God, and the average person fails to read His Book from cover to cover as one long story. In response, Jennifer underwent a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction at the age of 29, officially making her a breast cancer 'previvor.' In addition, Jennifer also understands the loss that can come from this disease, as her mother was taken from her in 2022 from metastatic breast cancer; just 3 years after being diagnosed. Though challenging on a personal level, Jennifer has since blended these experiences with her clinical expertise as fuel to help others facing the same realities, whether that be by their side during treatment or on stage spreading much-needed motivation and awareness. To Jennifer, her patient's wins are her wins, she is a strong breast cancer awareness advocate, and is always remaining updated on the current industry innovations and trends to optimize the entire clinical experience. Beth Brown is an award-winning author, speaker, and media presenter based in Richmond, Virginia.
