I began writing for personal enjoyment as a child and went to college to pursue a history degree. I also studied at the University of Southern California in the School of Journalism and while there wrote and published a volume of quotes from my father’s works. Published by Bantam Doubleday Dell in 1988, A Trail of Memories spent 16 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and was also a Publisher’s Weekly bestseller. After a detour through the film industry, I returned to my roots to write novels for the Young Adult market, spending time under the tutelage of Craig Virden, then head of Random House Books for Young Readers, perfecting my craft.
