I am currently an active duty Soldier, and I have been in the U.S. Army for 11 years. I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Behavioral Science form Ashford University. I have attended the Army’s Master Resilience Course, Equal Opportunity Course, Suicide Prevention Course, and Drill Sergeant Academy. While working with hundreds of graduates as a Drill Sergeant, I realized the need for mentorship and discipline in high school. Children in high school face so many challenges and pressures that require special guidance. That’s where I come in! I believe instilling decision-making skills based on principles and values will go further than leading by force. As a Senior Noncommissioned Officer, I also understand the complexity of getting others to follow you. After completing my MBA, I pursued a career in Human Resources, with a focus on learning and development. I was raised in a middle-class family by the age of 12 our family was broken once my father chose drugs. Looking for love in the wrong places I ended up in 2 abusive relationships and then found out in 1997 that I contracted HIV. Since my diagnosis, I gave birth to a baby girl who was born HIV negative and now a high school senior. I am an advocate, speaker/motivational speaker, and podcast radio host. I started advocating because of the stigma and I use my voice to change how society looks at HIV. Encouraging, inspiring, and motivating others to live their best life. That no matter what struggles or adversities you face in life that we only have one life and we should live it well, be happy and smile. We can get through anything once we change how we think it's up to us to change our minds.
