She never met a stranger! You'll agree when meeting her, she instantaneously connects to your sense of humanity. She fervently believes that the tapestry of our lives has interwoven pieces. This innate character is measurably responsible for her success in the field of technology marketing with companies like IBM, Qlik, Cisco and currently - Avalara. She is a proud graduate of Saint Augustine’s University, a local HBCU in Raleigh, NC. She has more than her B.A. in Communications to thank them for because it is where she made lifelong friendships, joined the first black sorority – Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and met her husband, Chad Thomas, also a Saint Aug alum which she united with in the college chapel in 2000. They've resided in the triangle area since meeting and marrying at St. Aug and along the way, they've raised one HBCU graduate - Chad Thomas, II (NCA&T State University), one HBCU attendee - Chase Thomas (Howard University) with one more future HBCU graduate, Chance Thomas (age 11, Grade 5). She did not travel far to make the Triangle area her home since she hails from the South Carolina lowcountry, but she has traveled further than her family dreamed. She was raised by a “blended” family which consisted of every family member on a street, that’s named in their honor. Southern is as real as her drawl and her open spirit – makes you want to “porchsit” with her on a sunny day. More than anything, she’s a creator at heart, which has served her well as a Technology Marketer and more recently as the visionary behind the GRITSyall brand created to use her life as a mirror for others to move toward their own destiny – on winding, crooked or straight pathways. By day, she's driving marketing strategy for more than one hundred companies in the Avalara partner ecosystem and like most mothers and wives, by nightfall, she's trying to figure out what's for dinner!

What happens when you invest more than two decades climbing the corporate ladder only to realize you had leaned it against the wrong wall? If you're Scott Brown, you walk away from the security of corporate politics, conflicting expectations, and open office layouts to focus on your true passion … the people who bring business to life. While he was running stores, and then, while he was running HR departments, Scott watched too many good people get run out, run down, and run over. He realized the greatest differentiator wasn't what a business sold, it was the relationships the business had with their people, their customers, and their constituents. Unfortunately, all too often, those relationships were toxic, and too many retailers were running out of time. So, in 2010, Scott decided to do something about it. As he was earning Master’s in Organizational Leadership, he realized the most effective leaders aligned what they did, said, valued, and expected. As he wrote his thesis, he knew there was more he wanted to say and do. The foundation of his book, ALIGNMENT, came from that thesis, and was written to help leaders build healthy, reciprocal relationships with their people by aligning what they do, say, value, and expect. While his passion might have started in the retail world, his work transcends any industry that has employees. Scott has been called a "why sayer", an "unconventional optimist", and "the tide that raises all ships" because he has the bold vision of saving corporate America one bad boss at a time. Fascinated by how everybody has a story about working for a bad boss, but almost nobody has a story about being a bad boss, Scott has devoted his life to helping leaders see themselves as others see them, inspiring leaders to find their voice, and teaching leaders how alignment can engage the best their people have to offer. Since 2010, Scott has spoken on stages all across Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, Indiana, and California. Scott is a dynamic, entertaining story-centric speaker who will leave your audience inspired to implement the practical tools he has discovered are the keys to solving the bad boss epidemic once and for all. After all, don't you want your people fully engaged and focused on your success?

With odds against me, I grew up being made fun of because of my looks and our lack of wealth. Society and classmates always said that because of these and other circumstances that my life would be meaningless. That I would never graduate high school, have a good job, own a business, go to college, do anything with sports, or become a political candidate.......but they were dead wrong! Because of inner drive and determination, I have done all the above, and I'm just getting started. Now besides being a political candidate, I am on a mission to help others see their unlimited potential and unlock their drive to become to the greatness that they can be.
